Freedom Band Skin Barrier Underpatches are designed specifically for the Medtronic MiniMed Instinct. These soft, flexible adhesive under patches create an additional barrier between your skin and the MiniMed Instinct sensor adhesive for comfortable everyday CGM wear.

Unlike an overpatch that is placed on top of or around a CGM, a MiniMed Instinct underpatch is applied directly to clean skin before the sensor is installed. The sensor is then applied over the barrier patch according to the manufacturer's application instructions.

How to Apply Your MiniMed Instinct Underpatch

1. Prepare your MiniMed Instinct application area according to the manufacturer's instructions.

2. Make sure the surrounding skin is clean and completely dry.

3. Apply the Freedom Skin Barrier Underpatch directly to the skin.

4. Smooth the entire underpatch against your skin to establish good adhesive contact.

5. Apply your Medtronic MiniMed Instinct sensor over the underpatch according to the manufacturer's sensor application instructions.

6. Add a compatible MiniMed Instinct overpatch or Freedom protective system if additional protection is desired.

Always follow Medtronic's instructions for proper sensor placement and application.

Test the Adhesive Before Sensor Application

We recommend testing any new adhesive product on your skin before using it underneath your CGM.

Apply the Freedom Skin Barrier Patch to a small area without installing your MiniMed Instinct sensor. This allows you to evaluate the material and adhesive before incorporating it into your normal sensor application.

If irritation or an unwanted skin reaction occurs, discontinue use.

MiniMed Instinct Underpatch vs. Overpatch

A MiniMed Instinct underpatch and MiniMed Instinct overpatch serve two different purposes.

The Freedom Skin Barrier Underpatch is placed underneath the sensor and its original adhesive, creating an additional layer between your skin and the device adhesive.

A Freedom Band MiniMed Instinct Overpatch is applied over or around the sensor to provide additional adhesive coverage and help protect the CGM from everyday snags, bumps, sweat, and activity.

The two products can be used together as part of your MiniMed Instinct protection setup.

Application & Adhesion Tips

Apply your Freedom Skin Barrier Underpatch to clean, completely dry skin.

Avoid applying lotions, sunscreen, oils, or similar products to the application area immediately beforehand because they can interfere with adhesive performance.

After applying the barrier patch, press firmly and evenly across the entire surface to establish good skin contact before proceeding with your MiniMed Instinct sensor application.

Always follow the device manufacturer's instructions regarding sensor application, approved wear locations, wear duration, bathing, swimming, and water exposure.
