Medtronic Guardian 4 Protection Guide: Clear Overpatches, Reusable Guards & Everyday Wear

Guardian 4 users have more than one way to add accessory protection around a sensor. The right choice depends on whether your main concern is adhesive reinforcement, bumps and snags, or a combination of both.

Always follow Medtronic’s current instructions for sensor insertion, required tapes, placement and wear. Freedom Band products are accessories and do not replace manufacturer-required components.

Option 1: an adhesive overpatch

An overpatch extends beyond the original adhesive footprint and can help reinforce edges that are exposed to clothing, towels and daily movement. Clear options are useful when you want the lowest-profile look, while fabric-style options can add more visible coverage.

Option 2: a reusable Guardian guard

A reusable guard adds a physical layer around the compatible wearable. It is useful for people whose sensors tend to meet door frames, sleeves, bags or other everyday snag points. Because the guard is reusable, you can move it from one sensor session to the next as intended by the accessory design.

When does a guard plus patch make sense?

Some wearers want the adhesive reinforcement of an overpatch and the physical coverage of a reusable guard. When using multiple accessory layers, confirm that each piece is designed to work together and that nothing interferes with the sensor or required manufacturer tapes.

Think about your routine

• Mostly adhesive edge lifting? Start by looking at an overpatch.
• Mostly bumps and snags? A reusable guard may address the problem more directly.
• Both? Consider a compatible guard-and-overpatch combination.
