The Dexcom G7 family is designed for extended sensor wear, which means the adhesive has to make it through sleep, work, exercise, showers and everyday movement. An overpatch can provide additional adhesive coverage when lifting edges or activity are a concern.

What does a Dexcom G7 overpatch do?

An overpatch sits around or over the sensor's adhesive area, depending on its design. Its job is supplemental retention and protection; it does not replace correct sensor insertion or Dexcom's own instructions.

Prepare the site carefully

Dexcom recommends a flat, clean and completely dry sensor site and advises users to follow the included overpatch instructions. Avoid applying the sensor where skin folds or other factors may interfere with adhesion, and follow Dexcom's current approved wear-location guidance.

Sweat and water

Exercise and water can challenge adhesive over time. Dexcom's current guidance notes that keeping the patch dry and sweat-free early in the wear period can help adhesion. When the sensor gets wet, follow Dexcom's drying guidance rather than aggressively rubbing the patch.

Overpatch, guard or band?

An overpatch is primarily an adhesive solution. A guard adds physical protection from bumps and snags. A reusable band adds another layer of protection and can be removed and reused. Some users combine compatible approaches depending on activity.
