Update: August 25, 2026 — the FDA authorized Abbott's Libre Duo 10 Day Continuous Dual Glucose Ketone Monitoring System for people age 2 and older living with diabetes. According to the FDA, it is the first wearable device in the U.S. to continuously monitor ketone levels and the first device to continuously monitor both ketones and glucose together in a single wearable.
That is significant because ketone monitoring has traditionally required a separate point-in-time test. Libre Duo 10 Day continuously measures glucose and ketone levels and sends readings to a compatible smartphone, giving users another way to see changing trends between individual checks.

For Freedom Band customers, there is another important part of the news: Abbott has stated that its dual glucose-and-ketone sensor uses the same physical sensor size as FreeStyle Libre 3. Our established FreeStyle Libre 3 and Libre 3 Plus protection products are also physically compatible with FreeStyle Libre Duo, so customers can use the same established Freedom Band armbands, reusable sensor guards, overpatches, underpatches and protection options rather than needing a duplicate accessory line.

What is FreeStyle Libre Duo?
The U.S.-authorized Libre Duo 10 Day Continuous Dual Glucose Ketone Monitoring System is designed to continuously monitor both glucose and ketone levels from one wearable sensor. The FDA says readings are measured every minute and sent wirelessly to a compatible smartphone, where users can view current levels and trends. The system can also provide alerts when ketone levels reach a concerning threshold.
The FDA authorized the U.S. Libre Duo 10 Day system through the De Novo pathway on August 25, 2026. This U.S. authorization should not be confused with other Libre Duo configurations announced for markets outside the United States.
For primary-source details, see the FDA authorization announcement and Abbott's information about its dual glucose and ketone sensor.
Why the Libre Duo news matters
Glucose and ketones provide different pieces of information. Rising ketones can be an important warning sign for diabetic ketoacidosis, while glucose monitoring remains central to everyday diabetes management. Bringing both measurements into one continuously worn sensor could reduce the need to rely only on separate spot ketone checks when evaluating changing trends.
The device itself does not replace medical guidance. The FDA specifically notes that ketone information should be interpreted together with glucose readings and symptoms.
FreeStyle Libre Duo protection options
A new sensor can create a familiar practical concern: keeping it protected through clothing changes, door frames, exercise, sleep, sweat and everyday bumps. Different users prefer different protection methods, so our FreeStyle Libre Duo Accessories & Protection collection brings the compatible options together in one place.
Freedom Band CGM Armband
For reusable protection without relying only on adhesive, the FreeStyle Libre 3, 3 Plus & Duo Freedom Band CGM Armband Starter Kit provides an adjustable armband-based option for compatible sensors.
Freedom Flex Shield Sensor Guard
The FreeStyle Libre 3, 3 Plus & Duo Freedom Flex Shield is a soft, reusable silicone sensor guard designed to help deflect everyday bumps, scrapes and snags while working with compatible flexible overpatches.
Freedom Case Color Add-On
If you already use a 1-inch Freedom Band, the FreeStyle Libre 3, 3 Plus & Duo Freedom Case provides another reusable color option. The Freedom Case is an add-on and requires a compatible 1-inch Freedom Band.
Libre Duo overpatches
For adhesive reinforcement, our FreeStyle Libre 3, 3 Plus & Duo adhesive overpatches help reinforce sensor adhesive during daily wear, exercise and other activities.
Users who prefer transparent coverage can also choose the FreeStyle Libre 3, 3 Plus & Duo clear no-hole overpatch with a non-stick center.
Skin barrier underpatches
For users who want a layer between their skin and sensor adhesive, the FreeStyle Libre 3, 3 Plus & Duo skin barrier underpatch is designed to be applied to the skin before sensor application.
Complete protection bundle
If you want several protection options in one setup, the FreeStyle Libre 3, 3 Plus & Duo Complete CGM Protection Bundle combines reusable and adhesive protection options in one kit.
Do you need brand-new accessories for Libre Duo?
Not necessarily. Our established Libre 3 and Libre 3 Plus protection products physically fit Libre Duo, so we added Duo compatibility to those established products instead of creating duplicate listings. That keeps the product choices simpler while preserving the same protection options customers already use.
Choosing the right Libre Duo accessory
If adhesive lifting is your biggest concern, start with an overpatch. If you want a barrier between skin and sensor adhesive, consider an underpatch. For bumps and clothing snags, a reusable sensor guard adds a physical layer around the sensor. For users who prefer reusable non-adhesive support, a Freedom Band armband provides another approach. A complete protection bundle combines several of these options.
